It’s the moment Twilight fans the world over had waited years to see, from the moment it was first published by novelist Stephenie Meyer. Now, it’s been captured with two new dolls from the Barbie® Collector Spring 2012 Collection!
It’s the eighth largest country in the world, with 40 million people and vast climatic extremes. Its capital is often called the “Paris of South America.” And for the first time, it finally has a Barbie® doll to call its own.
Finally — Barbie® doll pays homage to Pantone color #219C, aka Barbie PINK!
It sounds like the plot of a Hollywood movie. It has all the elements… glamour, excitement, and romance. It's the story of the first meeting between the American actress Grace Kelly and her future husband, the Prince of Monaco.
The year was 1955, and Miss Kelly was in the French principality to attend the Cannes film festival. The beautiful movie star was invited to a special meeting with the country's handsome — and single — Prince Rainier. Dressing for her rendezvous with royalty, she laid out a lovely gown to be pressed, and prepared to style her just-washed hair.
The design team at Barbie® Collector continues a great tradition with the festive and fashion-forward 2011 Holiday Barbie doll! The first holiday doll debuted in 1988 and was an instant hit with collectors worldwide.
Lights dim, the orchestra swells and showgirls in ruffled dresses sashay across the stage!
You’re seated front row center at the Moulin Rouge, the preeminent Parisian nightclub, famous for its cabaret performers — none more spectacular than the cancan dancer.
Celebrated actress Grace Kelly was already an international sensation prior to her engagement to Rainier III, Prince of Monaco—but it was their whirlwind courtship that became the stuff of legend! Dashing prince, stunning movie star and a fortuitous meeting at the Cannes Film Festival riveted fans, enchanted by their love-at-first-sight romance. By the time America’s platinum treasure was ready to say, “I do,” interest in her gown had reached a fever pitch.
Barbie® doll, the ultimate muse, embodies three major works of art — with a fashion twist — courtesy of visionary designer Linda Kyaw for The Barbie® Museum Collection!
“For the Museum Collection, I wanted to do something different,” Linda explains, “so we went with the most iconic paintings of all time with an emphasis on fashion.” For the collection, she picked works by Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent Van Gogh, and Gustav Klimt.
Excited by the prospect of reinterpreting their paintings, Linda faced several interesting challenges.
Call her "out of this world," a "supernova of style," even a "glamtastic vision of futuristic fashion!" She's the Goddess of the Galaxy™ Barbie® Doll, and before she begins her fabulous reign on planet Earth, designer Bill Greening took a few moments to talk about this sci-fi-inspired sensation.
Where did you get your inspiration for Goddess of the Galaxy?
We're big fans of sci-fi in our house. I'm also a kid of the 1970s, so sci-fi was really influential in my childhood - in TV, movies, comics, toys, etc. I also think there's a lot of fashion glamour in sci-fi.
