Who doesn’t dream of taking a fabulous vacation, full of adventure, intrigue, and whirlwind romance? This idea of the ultimate bon voyage inspired designer Robert Best while expanding the “Atelier” theme for the 2013 Barbie® Fashion Model Collection.
“I imagined Barbie was going on a fantastic journey,” he told me, “maybe on an ocean liner, like something out of a classic Hollywood film.”
Some of the world’s best-loved movies have perfectly set high drama and high fashion on the high seas! With a sweeping cinematic vision in place, Best fantasized about the glamorous wardrobe Barbie would pack. The result is a stunning, sophisticated collection that delivers the wonderful details and wide variety that collectors adore — but with a playful touch. “We’ve taken the show on the road — or the high seas, as the case may be,” Best said. “And we’ve added some whimsy and fun.”
Now Barbie is ready to embark on her yearlong fashion journey with five new dolls in the 2013 BFMC® (three currently available). The couture icon sets sail in style with Boater Ensemble Barbie® Doll. Heads turn and hearts flutter as soon as she steps aboard the luxury liner. Who is this impeccably dressed beauty? Passengers strain to glimpse the mysterious, trendy traveler in her tailored nautical outfit and charming boater hat.
There’s a buzz in the sea air as Luncheon Ensemble Barbie® Doll makes a grand entrance in the ship’s dining room. She’s elegance personified in a crisp, classic dress and coordinating swing coat. Later, after a day of exploring exotic ports of call, Cocktail Dress Barbie® Doll enjoys refreshing libations at the on-deck lounge. The toast of the cruise, Barbie dazzles new friends and potential suitors alike in a chic black evening dress, embellished with lace, tulle, and beads. It’s a scene worthy of a Hollywood movie, but why ask for the moon when we have sartorial splendor under the stars?
Expect more dramatic couture when the other two Barbie dolls debut later this year…as well as the appearance of a handsome traveller who catches her eye!
