One rarely — if ever — gets to be in the presence of true Hollywood royalty, especially someone as iconic and beloved as Audrey Hepburn, whose beauty is perfectly captured in the new Audrey Hepburn™ as Sabrina Doll. I had that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Twice.
In November 1989, the city of Sarasota, FL — where I was attending film school — held its first annual French Film Festival, and Audrey Hepburn was a surprise special guest at the premiere. Would you believe I ended up sitting in the row right behind her? The opening night film was a mediocre thriller not starring Hepburn. But she was still the star of the evening, and I spent the next two hours gazing at her graceful profile instead of the screen!
Afterward, a few classmates and I snuck into the fancy reception at the art museum near our school. I stood a few feet from Hepburn (what a pleasure!) as she chatted with fans, wowing everyone with her unassuming elegance and charm. I’d grown up watching Hepburn’s movies, and she still looked stunning. Her delicate frame was draped in a simple but chic black ensemble, with sparkly silver earrings and a sleek chignon that highlighted her unforgettable face. I was too star-struck to speak to her. It was enough just to bask in the glow of this cinematic legend, fashion icon, and devoted humanitarian — she’d recently been named a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
Two years later, while working in Fort Lauderdale, I was given a fourth-row ticket to a UNICEF benefit concert. Hepburn hosted the poignant first half, joining countless children on stage, and Liza Minnelli finished the show with rousing song-and-dance numbers. I actually met Minnelli a few years ago, and when I mentioned this benefit, she gushed about Hepburn, “Oh, wasn’t she lovely?”
Yes, she was. So lovely.
Fortunately, Hepburn’s radiance lives on in her luminous screen performances — as well as dazzling dolls from Barbie Collector, celebrating her roles in Roman Holiday, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and now Sabrina. Audrey Hepburn™ as Sabrina Doll recreates her glamorous look from the 1954 romance-comedy, about a chauffeur’s daughter who’s pursued by two handsome, wealthy brothers. This first-ever Silkstone® Hepburn doll, which features a gorgeous face sculpt and exquisite embroidered gown, is a wonderful tribute to the actress’ enduring legacy and haute couture style!
