Nothing epitomizes international glamour quite like the Cannes Film Festival. Every May, talented filmmakers, famous actors, and devoted moviegoers from around the globe gather to celebrate cinema — and fashion. (Just check out Fan Bingbing Doll, which recreates the Chinese actress’ spectacular look for Cannes 2010.)
So you can imagine my excitement at attending this très chic extravaganza back in the ’90s!
My favorite moment during the dazzling, dizzying 12-day event was walking the red carpet at the Palais des Festivals, where hordes of fans screamed and countless cameras flashed. I felt like a celebrity myself! Of course, I wasn’t — I was a Florida State film student at the time. Through a special arrangement with the Festival, my classmates and I were allowed free access to screenings.
Yes, I still had to buy a plane ticket, borrow a tuxedo, and obtain a passport — I’d never been abroad before — but the extra expense and effort was worth it for the opportunity of a lifetime. We flew from Tampa to Milan, drove along the gorgeous Riviera to the Côte d’Azur, and stayed in the nearby town of Grasse, the center of the French perfume industry. Every evening, we attended black-tie premieres and then attempted to sneak into exclusive after-parties. Sometimes we even succeeded.
The entire Cannes Film Festival experience — a crazy convergence of showbiz, art, and haute couture — was thrilling and surreal, a “Worldwide Wow!” adventure I’ll treasure forever.
Now, Barbie Collector celebrates “Worldwide Wow!” moments with an exquisite trio of international dolls. In addition to Fan Bingbing Doll, dressed in her striking “Dragon Robe” gown, the assortment includes Italian enchantress Dulcissima™ Barbie® Doll. This bella donna inspires amore in her short A-line skirt with matching cape and embroidered boots. For a sportier vibe, kick it with Brazilian stunner BRITTO Barbie® Doll, who scores major style points in a soccer-print dress by artist Romero Britto. They’re all available in the shop now, to add a new kind of “Wow!” to your collection!
